Citizens Advice Telford and the Wrekin is a charity providing free, confidential, impartial and independent advice service to the local community
In the present pandemic crisis, our service delivery model has had to change.  We would normally operate a drop-in service at Tan Bank, Wellington which often saw 40+ people daily.  Our other services, outreaches and projects helped a further 50 people per week, mostly by face-to-face appointments.   As the lock-down is relaxed, we already know that the demand for our services will increase sharply.  One in five people are claiming benefits because of lost or reduced income.  Add to this the longer-term effects on people of financial measures such as payment holidays, unemployment and an economic recession.  This means we are going to be a key “go to” organisation for advice on a wide range of problems
Telford has some 20 neighbourhoods which are in the most deprived ten percent nationally.  In ten wards, more than 25 percent of children live in poverty.  There is significant health deprivation with 28 percent of people identifying as disabled or having long-term health problems.  In five wards, fuel poverty affects nearly one in five households.
