Telford Tree of Light

2013 Telford Tree of Light Appeal

The presentation of cheques totalling £38,000 was made on Thursday 26th February. All Telford Rotarians would like to thank the generosity of people for their support. It enabled us to break yet another record of £38000 being distributed to local Charities. A report and photographs appeared in the Shropshire Star Friday 27th February and may be seen by following this link http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2014/02/28/telford-rotarians-raise-38

We had more names around the tree, along with a number of pets. The tree was taken down by Telford Centre management on January 6th 2014, it is only possible to view the names of those remembered via the links on this website.

We are very conscious that we only have a very small proportion of the Telford and Wrekin population who partake, and we often wonder how we could improve on our penetration of the district. We are confident that we have one of the most successful Trees in the UK Rotary movement, and naturally are very proud of this.

Again thanks to our Sponsors, as without them we would not be able to say that every penny we collect from the Public goes to the charities picked by the 4 Clubs.

I would like to thank our generous corporate sponsors who are also listed and can be found on the website. Especially the Wellington Market company who proof read and print the names to appear around the tree and else where in the Telford area, and Lanyon Bowdler who receive our mail and post it for us. The Editor and Staff of the Telford Journal for printing the names each week and Telford Centre Management and Staff for the tree.

“Thank you Telford for your generous donations which have exceeded all previous years giving. Until the final gift aid claim is settled we are unable the state the exact figure but it is expected to be around £37,000, in memory of over 5,000 loved ones.” Clare Ashford, Radio Shropshire presenter, switched on the lights at Telford Town Centre at 4pm 14 November 2013. The names of those remembered were also be displayed in Truffles Cafe in Ironbridge, Carol’s cafe in the Wellington Market, and in Tranter Lowe office windows in Dawley and Oakengates.

The Telford Rotary Tree of Light Trust will hold it’s AGM in March at Ramada(Greys) Hotel following which the incoming Rotary Club Presidents will be looking to see what charities they will be able to support for this year. The committee then commence planning for 2014, in April, and it all starts again.
