About the Tree of Light

Although substantial amounts of money are raised by the Tree of Light, it is run primarily as a service to the public.

Jim Hawkins of BBC Radio Shropshire and John Morris Roberts from the ToL Committee at the switch-on.It has proved to be very popular in Telford and members of the committee are frequently asked "Will there be a Tree of Light again this year?" and "When does it start?” Service to others is at the heart of Rotary's ideals and the Tree of Light is a good example of what Rotary is about - as embodied in its motto 'Service Above Self'.

In 2010 the Appeal was supported by thousands of individual sponsors, and raised £35,000. Every penny of the total sum contributed by members of the public will be shared between five charities; The Telford Day Hospice, part of the Severn Hospice will receive half of the money raised with the other half being shared equally between

Landau - supported employment

Hope House Children’s Hospices - care for terminally ill children

Marie Curie Cancer Care - helping people with terminal illnes

Princess Royal Hospital Breast Cancer Support Group - helping people affected

Again, our thanks to everyone who continues to support the Telford Rotary Tree of Light.
